Cris and Trevor Draper in studio. Jayson Toerck joins us via the road on his way into the studio this week after a long drive straight from North Dakota to SLC to be on the show and get home.
We start out the morning with a conversation on hunting Mule Deer and Big Horn Sheep on Antelope Island State Park. NOW preface this to be understood we are ALL hunters and love the sport, but oppose this as an option of population control or financial gain for the Park through the use of a non sustainable or renewable resource.
We are going to go in-depth on an issue with Antelope Island State Park and a just defeated Bill that would have allowed hunting for mule deer and big horn sheep. This is an issue that just keeps coming up when budget cuts come around with Legislation and budgeting isues. Are we ready to start selling off our State or National Parks to the highest bidders?
And we will talk about the current issue of entire portions of big horn sheep across the west and farther, that are dying off from pneumonia or having to be put down by Wildlife Officials to try and curb the spread of this infectious disease that has come into the herd potentially from contact with domestic sheep or goats that carry Pasteurella but are unaffected by the bacteria. This has not been confirmed as of yet, but has been the case in many past cases. We could potentially lose 1/2 to 2/3rds of the entire populations of our Big Horn Sheep this winter and Antelope Island is a protected area in which we have a resource to begin to rebuild these herds from. This is a delicate issue with many facets to explore. Tune in for next weeks show for additional information.
But we start out checking in with Craig Gordon, Utah Avalanche Center check in and gives us a avalanche report. Ann Evans with Utah State Parks calls in with a snowmobile grooming report to let you know where the best places to ride are! And remember you can download the maps right to your computer on-line here.
We have a full panel this and next week lined up to talk over the entire topic. Don Peay with Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife joins us to clear up some of the misconceptions floating around and talk about how bad many of the Government funding issues are affecting us all. From the hunting on Antelope Island to feeding the wild mustangs, and dealing with the wolf issue. We are going broke and this needs to change.
And we wrap up the first hour talking with Tom Bean of the Lehi Cabelas about the Spring Fin and Feathers Adventure Giveaway and speical events and offers at the store this weekend only!
