Threatened trout species confirmed in Utah

Utah wildlife officials have confirmed a tiny population of rare greenback cutthroat trout in a small creek of the LaSal mountains east of Moab, prompting them to issue an emergency fishing regulation to protect the fish.

How the population ended up in the LaSals is a question biologists will likely debate for years.

Greenback cutthroat are listed as threatened on the Endangered Species list and are managed as a protected fish. This is the first time greenbacks have been discovered in Utah; they are the first Utah sport fish protected by the Fish and Wildlife Service under the Endangered Species Act.

"We very excited and pleasantly surprised that greenbacks have been located in Utah," said Paul Dremann. For more information visit the article here!
